How can one have multiple sound tracks for a vcd or svcd? I
suppose one could use Left and Right channels for two of the
tracks, are there other ways without duplicating the video mpg?

I notice on DVDs that one can select narration, as though a
variable gets set so whenever it plays, you hear the director
discussing the movie, but it is in stereo. Can this be done also
with vcd/svcd? How? and how does user select it, with soundtrack
    button on controller?

    Thanks,

    Hi !
    I'm a newbie too!!
If you give a look at
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/svcd.htm
you will see that SVCD has the ability to have 2 stereo chanel, o four mono channel. This let your have up to 2 stereo DPL stream on your VCD.
It shoul be otbained whit a software called BBMPEG. You will find more information on www.labdv.com.
An other authoring software that let you obtain steraming multiplexing is I-Authoring, but it is commercial an discontiunued.
It -seems- that this software could also let you have subtitles non only superimposed on the video (i.e. fixed) but also floating subtitles (up to 4 languages).
I don't know if there is any other softeware to obtain that, but is shoul be cool if DVDx shold implement this !!

I downloaded the ntsc demo svcd with multiple sound tracks and
subtitles, burned it with cdrdao, but in my Pioneer 434 played the
video fine, but I could only hear one sound track. I pushed the
soundtrack button on the controller and got 1:stereo, 1:L, 1:R,
2:stereo, 2:L, 2:R, but I only heard sound on channel 1, nothing on
channel 2. I couldn't see any subtitles, and could not figure out
how to turn them on. This demo is from the vcdhelp.com site.
What am I doing wrong? Anybody seen this work?
