  1. What kind of input is an auxilliary input?

The kind used most often if not exclusively on car stereos?Does an aux jack, combine both line in and out capabilities?

Probably a 1V P-P 100K ohm input, same as line in on most audio amplifiers. If it's called a input, that likely all it is.

  3. Actually i called an input but i'm not sure if it it just an input.

I'm refering to the 3.5mm jack the car stereos have labeled "AUX".

    Question
Would it be better to feed sound to this aux jack or connect the audio device to one of the DAT tapes and play it on a car casette player?

Sorry if this question is general in nature but i try to understand how this works so i make the decision on which method to choos for music playback.

You would have to check with the manufacturer to see if it's an input or output. If it's on the front panel, I would suspect an input used for maybe a MP3 player or similar. But it could also be an output if it's on the back of the device, maybe used for an additional amplifier.

You could try plugging in a set of headphones and determine if it's an output. But usually 'Aux' denotes an input.
