I have some old 8mm analog tapes that i want to put on dvd. I have a sony digital 8 camcorder that will play them back just fine on my tv, but when I try to copy them to my computer, it stops in imovie after one minute (and doesnt capture anything). I have successfully copied the digital videos taken by the digital 8 camcorder to the computer using the same firewire, but it wont work with the other. I had read some other posts, thinking this would be my solution. Am I doing something wrong? Do i need to switch settings, get a different kind of firewire? I have a dynex 6 pin to 4 pin (recommended by a person at best buy). Please help!

thanks, zoobie, for responding so quickly. I looked at the tools on the left, but I guess, since I really don't know what I am doing, I don't even know where to start. I looked under capture a bit, and also in Mac, but was not sure really what to look for. So are you telling me that the firewire I bought will not work for this, and it is not just a setting or something on my camcorder/computer? It seemed in other forums, that this was the solution for many people. They actually bought a camcorder like this so they could playback their old 8mm videos, the firewire, and then it worked. I may use some of the words correctly, but I hardly know what I am talking about, sorry.. you will have to go slow...

I'm just saying if it's stopping during capture, try to use some other application and make sure you have enough space on your hard drive.
    Try these free cap aps
    BabyaTV
    VLC

Since you are using a Mac, probably better asked in our Mac Forum. Moving you.

    And welcome to our forums.
