    Hi,

    I have Sony DCR-DVD108. I recorded a 30min video and finalized the dvd-r (mini dvd, 1.4GB).
The dvd works on any dvd player and computer... so I used dvd decrypter to put it on my hdd
with the intention of converting it to an .AVI (uncompressed).

So I used vob2mpg v2.5 and I got an .mpg file of size 1.2GB.
    GSpot v2.60 RC01 says the codec is MPEG2 ... 29.970 fps 720x480 4998 kbps
    Audio is AC3 48KHz freq 256kb/s stereo

Then I opened this .mpg using VirtualDub v1.8.6
    and I got this error
"MPEG Import Filter: invalid pack at position 3: marker bit not set; possibly MPEG-2 stream"

    What do I do now?

    I have 32bit WinXP Pro SP2.

    Thanks.

    Edit:
After a quick google search which I should have done before even posting, I found out
VirtualDub doesn't support MPEG-2, and I need a plugin. So I found this
    http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/~fcchandler/Plugins/MPEG2/index.html
and it seems to be working...

Anyone knows any other way to convert movie (VIDEO_TS content) to MPG other than VOB2MPG?
    Thanks.

You can open VOB directly in Virtualdub with the MPEG2 plugin since VOB is a container that holds MPEG2. If you are going to use full movies then you'll want to set DVDdecrypter to save as one VOB instead of splitting them. This will keep you from having sync issues.

Just to add, that there is also the ultra stable Virtualdub mpeg2

But, nowdays, you can download this plug in here (as you already find out):
    http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/~fcchandler/Plugins/MPEG2/index.html

Install it to the later Virtualdub versions (1.8.1 or later) and can do your job easy.
