I am using these two programs to convert mkv to avi, but for the output the subtitle size is so big. I looked for a long time but couldn't find a way to make it smaller. Is there a menu somewhere I'm not aware of? Or can anyone suggest another tool that can adjust the subtitle size, or better yet keep the original subtitle style. I have tried all2avi and xvidpsp, but they take too long to encode on my computer.

what format are your subs?
do you mean hardsubbing? or softsubbing?
what is inside the .mkv? (use mediainfo) - because you may not need to re-encode if it's already XviD video, for example
assuming you mean hardsubbing avidemux supports srt, idx/sub, .ass, .ssa with it's filter
you can also hardsub with avisynth and vsfilter i.e. textsub() -
Its H264 with softsubs. I want them hardcoded, which is working. Just the font size is too big, it must be like a size 30-35 font or so lol. Anyone have any experience with these two programs and know how to change the font size?

I'm not familiar with any video converter
again, what format? (srt, ssa,etc...) ?
You can keep same style and adjust colors, fonts, sizes with avidemux while hardsubbing for srt, ssa, ass, idx/sub
Another option to adjust in playback e.g. SMplayer and KMplayer have font display options -
They are .ass subs. If I do find a program to make the subs smaller, they usually take much longer to encode, so I guess I'll live with the big font.
