A PC software recorder to grap stuff from my sound card (whatever it's playing) BUT I will be able to give it a template.wav whatever so software says, whenever I see this audio pattern execute THIS. THIS being crop, skip, start a new file etc. $ no object.

    Seen anything like that?

    No.

    Basically you are dreaming.

You will NOT find something like this that works 100%

    Geek needs to dream!

And realistic Geeks would never ask 100%, I'd settle if it's 90% effective, better than nuthing.

The NSA's computers do audio pattern matching for a long time now, surely, the technology is good enuff now for commercial use. Nothing futuristic about it.

Realize that TV thrives on advertising so they aren't going to put in any kind of "audio prompt" to let equipment know "commercial start" or "commercial end". Ain't gonna happen!

The best you will find are the post recording trimmers, which use video patterns, not audio.

You talking about the thing built-in VideoReDo I assume?

I never used it ... I'd rather spend the time cutting commercials than let some program do it for me only to find when I'm watching it that part of the program is missing and my original unedited capture is long gone from the recycle bin.

That and standalone analysis tools such as comskip. I agree that these are a bit hit and miss, and unless you have ad breaks every few minutes, I find them far more trouble that they are worth. The amount of time wasted weeding out false positives or tuning the sensitivity would have the job finished in most cases.

The OP in this case however seems to want something that will do this in real time while he is recording, and frankly this isn't something I would want left up to a program to determine.

I believe most of that kind of tool look for a black frame or two to signal a commercial. You might be able to do the same with audio, unless the commercials are edited in tightly. MP3 DirectCut can split a file based on breaks, and TotalRecorder can start a new output file based on breaks.

Detecting commercials is way more complex then only looking for black frames.
Its not possible to have reliable detection using audio only.
