I have a Mac G5 Quad and I'm using DVDxDVPro to make .mov Quicktime video files for editing in Final Cut Pro 6. When converting 4:3 ratio DVDs there are no problems but when I try to convert 16:9 widescreen the picture gets 'squeezed' into a slightly letterbox frame and not the widest version of widescreen that matches the original video. Does anyone know if there is a setting that may remedy the situation or possibly recommend a program (not an expensive one because I'm not rich) that would do the trick?

    - The only setting that worked was the setting that mentioned 'shrinking' 16:9 video to 4:3. That encoded it without the 'squeezed' effect but it put the black bars on the top and bottom of the video.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

    Thanks in Advance!

As for DVDxDVPro and the widescreen trouble, you should ask the developer (see the site).
Another option is to use MPEG Streamclip to convert DVD to DV. It requires the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component to process DVD content, but I believe you should already have that as part of the Final Cut package. MPEG Streamclip will need a few more settings to be set than DVDxDV), but I have found no problem with respecting the aspect ratio of the source.

That MPEG Streamclip program is excellent! It's definitely easy to use and the results are perfect! Thanks for the info!
