This is probably a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway. Using Digitial Video Studio 1.10 I created a 10-minute movie that was in MPEG-2 (DVD Quality) format. The file is approximately 520 MB. Is there any way that I can put this file on a CD-R and get it to play correctly in my DVD player, which is an Apex AD-1500?

  2. Looking at the DVD player compatibility list we see that the Apex 1500 is a widely gifted performer. One format it support that will interest you is the miniDVD format. DVD video on a CD.

You can find information on that format at

Thanks for the tip. I already have the MPEG-2 (DVD Quailty) file made. I was planning to download the demo version of Ulead DVD MovieFactory to burn the file onto the CD-R. I've tried just burning the CD-R using EasyCD but that didn't play correctly in my DVD. My DVD (Apex 1500) through that the file was a VCD file. I've also download Nero, installed it but I never got the program to start-up. It always hung when I tried to start it. I'd appreciate any recommendation / suggestions you might have on the best software to use to get the MPEG-2 movie to CD-R correctly.

    Thanks.

  4. The Apex AD-1500 will also play MPEGs straight off an ISO data disc. So just copy your MPEG movie to CD-R as if you are making a disc to share computer files and put that into the Apex. I've tried this with some MPEGs, though I have not tried it with a DVD compatible MPEG. Worth a try.

I tried playing it using JOLIET to burn the CD-R. The MPEG-2 movie didn't play correctly. It would play for ~1-second, stop for ~1-second, play for ~1-second, so on and so ... Will ISO make a difference?

That's because your bitrate of the pure MPG2 file is too high. Lower it to 3000kbps.

I started experimenting with Bit Rates last night. I lowered it to 5000 kb/s and that almost played a 10-minute movie with video, 100+ stills and music correctly. I experienced slight interuptions at that rate. I'm going to try 4500 kb/s next. Hopefully, that'll play well. If not, I'll drop it by 500 kb/s until I find a rate that works.

I made three MPEG2 movies encoded at a rate of 4500 kb/sec with a resolution of 720x480 and they all three played great in my APEX 1500 DVD player. I'm very pleased with the results. I appreciate everybody's help.
