I've been using this for a while, but only recently began editing out commercials and the like, so I could fit two hour programs recorded at XP onto a single DVD-R DL. But suddenly, it stopped letting me erase sections of video. Right before this happened, I did let the HDD fill up, but don't know if there's any connection.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Mel

Yes, get rid of files on the HDD, last-in first-out (LIFO). Either offload to DVD or just Delete the latest dated titles, which are the ones that prob. filled up fragmented spaces on your HDD. Your HDD needs room to store files and edit instructions, etc. and it apparently doesn't have enough breathig space.

oh dear. But, I can't do so without nuking the content, as it runs more than 2 hours (Olympics) and won't fit on a single disc.

Will it help any to nuke content recorded earlier, or is it just LIFO?

Is there any way to dub from hdd to disc without using the one-touch record (the only way I'm familiar with)?
    thanks

You can copy using the Copy menu, just follow the menu prompts, or check pg 82 of manual for start of procedure.

You can delete or offload earlier stuff, just try to get rid of as much as you can, and the later dated the better. As you offload or delete, the HDD time remaining may suddenly increase but don't just stop there... get rid of as much as you can. If you do lots of editing, try to keep below 70% full or so... just an arbitrary number... no one knows exactly how much empty space you need, but the more the better so you have room for lots of editing instructions.

Here's a very simplified explanation of why to keep your HDD as clean as possible, esp. if you edit a lot.
