I can convert 4 of 5 mpg files to mp4...those four files are the same size as one another. The 5th file is shorter and when I convert it the Audio and Video are not synched. If I go into the VIDEO tab and change the Framerate...hit ENCODE and immediately RING...it is done, but didn't do anything. I figured the SYNCH problem would be solved with changing the framerate...

    HELP!

    Thanks, --bill

What kind of sync problem does occur? Is the audio late or early? Is the timing difference between video and audio constant, or does get get worse further into the clip?

Do the 5 parts belong together in one continuous movie? Are you perhaps converting VOB files, one at a time?

    Case,

Thanks for the response. All 5 VOB files are part of the same video (DVD). I did use the same setting in FFMPEGX on all the files...I guess the creator of the DVD divided the total size into 4 equal files and the rest went into the 5th.

I DID do one VOB at a time...why would the last one be so off. I have to good view again to see how it is out of synched!

    thanks, --bill

You may want to try this different approach: join the VOBs to one large VOB, then convert the whole thing in one go.

I followed the link you gave:

Using MacTheRipper 3.0 builds to create a single file movie.

MacTheRipper 3.0, donationware, keeps up with the latest hurdles to rip difficult discs. MacTheRipper needs a disc volume to read; this may be a physical disc or a mounted disc image.

To rip a DVD title to a single file, switch from Disc to Mode, from Full disc extraction to Title - chapter extraction, and select the title you want. Most likely the title marked 'MF' (main feature), the largest title.

I FOLLOWED the MAIN FEATURE...AND still came up with 5 VOB files...gads...what do I have to do to get ONE VOB?

Thanks again for putting up with my ignorance!

I verified, and the description is still correct. Perhaps you did a Main Feature Extraction, where you should have done a Title - Chapter Extraction?

The link describes 7 ways to get what you want. That means 6 alternatives after your first try...

Try MPEG Streamclip. Drop the first VOB into it, okay the next dialog about opening it as a stream (which means all the VOBs that are part of the title), and then export as MPEG4. Set the bitrate to around 1100 and the audio to no more than 160kb at 41k. Set the size to 640x480 (assuming the aspect ratio is 4:3). Give that a shot and let us know how it goes.
