I am having some problems burning avi/xvid files as data files to a cd-r or dvd-r. I have used a couple of different apps including Nero Burning Rom and after they are completed they tend to skip a few times whicle watching on my dvd player. I used to use Nero Vision and ConvertXtoDVD to burn the avi/xvid files to dvd-r's as image files and it worked great but it was a long process. I recently bought a Divx DVD Player so I thought I would try burning movies as data files to a cd for a 700mb file or a dvd for a 1.36gb file. It is a lot quicker and easier but they all have skipped, some more than others. Is this normal because it is a data file and not an image or should I try a different program. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Actually, I'd tend to assume first that it's the player having minor issues with the way the files were encoded - also assuming, of course, that you're using quality disc media.

Most DivX/Xvid DVD players and portables are a bit more strict on how the files should be encoded and what they'll tolerate, as opposed to a PC. If you want, you can post screenshots from GSpot, or cut and paste the info from MediaInfo (blank out the filename and path info, if you prefer), showing information on one or two of the files that are skipping. Also, what player is it? All that information might help us figure out why all of the files are skipping.

If you're still not sure about the burning program, have you tried ImgBurn?

Yes, I am using quality discs because the image files are fine.

Actually about 6-8 of the last movie torrents I have downloaded have all been this way. As you watch they just skip ahead but if i go back to the same point its fine. It happens anywhere between 2-6 times a movie. I can go right back to the point it skipped its just a pain.

I have not tried ImgBurn but somebody else also suggested it so I will try it.

    RabidDog,

When I burn a image file such as a nero image/iso or use convertxtodvd on a dvd they work fine without skipping. If I use the same exact dvd to burn as a data file it skips. Thats why I would say its not the quality of the dvd media.

It still sounds to me like there's something in the way the files themselves are encoded that the player doesn't exactly like. Does it skip in exactly the same manner/consistently (speed/frequency/etc.) on every video?
