Not a lot to go on but the commonest problem is trying to use an S-Video input with something that can only output composite. What is your source and what input are you using on the capture device?

I've got the same problem with a Hauppauge HVR 1800 MC Kit. It has an adapter to connect composite to S-Video but the video is in black and white using S-Video in WinTV and nothing appears on the screen if I choose Composite.

I've read that most video games are NTSC....you are PAL. You are trying to capture a quasi or hybrid signal that is neither NTSC or PAL....which capture cards and DVD recorders don't like.
