I have a 20 minute long " WMV 9 120FPS.avi " file that I want to edit. The problem is.. the file only opens properly in Windows Movie Maker(wtf??), and I want to use a different program to edit it.
How do I convert this file so it can be opened in programs such as Adobe Premiere, Sony Video Vegas, Virtualdub without lowering the quality? What should I convert it to? Because right now it won't open properly in any of the programs mentioned above.

Use VDub v1.7.6 and install the WMV plugin (WMV.vdplugin) into the “plugins” subdir.

Open file in VD and save new avi..." Who needs Google, my wife knows everything"

I tried both above, but it still wont open in virtualdub:

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'WMV3' (unknown)
VirtualDub requires Video For Windows (VFW) compitable codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable."

Set WMV9 support in ffdshow VfW configuration.
 ffdshow video encoder configuration > Decoder > Codecs > WMV3/9 = libavcodec (eventually wmv9)

 Or install WMV9 VCM codec.

 Or use Avisynth script.
 Video have 120 FPS - it's probably VFR.Code:DirectShowSource("c:\path\name_file.avi")
Use FPS conversion in VD or better in Avisynth script.

Thank you. That one worked.Originally Posted by Placio74

 Now onto problem nr 2:

I have a WMV9 120 fps.avi file which I want to add some background music to.. as an extra track
When i try to save the edited project, now with background music, it results in
1: Playback issues when using the default compressor
2: When I use the Microsoft wmv9 compressor, it 1: Takes awfully long time to save it (a 1 minute clip took 15 minutes,, and my file is in total 20 minutes, so it will take 5 whole hours for a 20 min episode...). and 2: The video "lags" whenever the "camera" is moving (don't really know how to describe it..).

Isn't there some way to just copy the original video and audio when I save it? Since, the only thing I do to the file is to add an extra sound file to it.. or do I still have to re-encode the whole file? :S
