Hello Group. I'm looking for a way on a Mac to find out what Codecs are used for a particular video file. This will be used as part of a script so I can't just check one by one. All I need to know is the FourCC code though the more info the better.

FFmpegX shows exactly what I want with the "info" button but I can't script this. I think ffmpeg might be able to do what I want but I haven't figured out how as of yet. Quicktime might also work but I can't find the right combination of applescript to give me the correct info.

Any advice would help so thanks. This is needed for OSX and I'm happy with command line or applescript utilities. My only limitation is that I can't use the spotlight/mddata for my systems as spotlight is disabled.

Maybe try VideoSpec and see how it uses ffmpeg.
