    Hi,

    I am thinking of getting a small portable player ( one that can play AVI files) but I would like ti use it at hone as well.

    How would it plug into a 5 speaker arrangement and what else would I have to be careful of.

    I've never seen one with support for 5.1 audio output, they typically only have stereo and/or headphone outputs.

    Just like any other DVD player or hardware purchase, make a list of options that you want/need and shop around.

    For avi (Divx) support, you might try a site like divx.com that used to have a list of all Divx certified DVD players.
