I have a DVD9 in my hard drive (the VIDEO_TS folder with the files in it) which is perfectly playable with Cyberlink PowerDVD or any other software, complete with subtitles, etc. However, when I try to burn it to a blank DVD9 with Nero the following warning is displayed:"DVD-Video files reallocation failed. Required file 'VIDEO_TS.VOB' is not present."
I checked the VIDEO_TS folder and in effect such file is not present. Should I ignore this warning and burn the DVD? Will it be playable in a standalone DVD player? If not, how can I fix it? Thanks.

Burn with Imgburn instead, http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?&showtopic=4643

I read the link you provided with the explanation as to how to burn a DL disc with Imgburn, very clear. I even tested burrning an image file with it, but the missing file in the image still does not show up. So my question still is, even if I use Imgburn, will the DVD be playable in a standalone player?

Imgburn is by far the best burning software (freeware or payware) for DVDs. If Imgburn burns it without complaint then if you burn to quality DL media then it should play in compatible players. In other words, if you experienced any glitches in playback the fault would most likely be the media or the player.

I will use Verbatim media and set the burn speed to 2.4X (eventhough it supports faster speed), so that would not be an issue. The thing is, in case of trouble, will Imgburn complain BEFORE or AFTER the DVD was burned? Because I would like to avoid wasting a blank DVD...thanksOriginally Posted by rkr1958

Yes. You don't need a VIDEO_TS.VOB, no matter what Nero seems to think.Originally Posted by alegator

It's not a required file if there isn't a menu. It's a bug with Nero.
If you must burn with Nero, copy one of the .IFO or .BUP files and rename to VIDEO_TS.VOB try to import it with Nero again. Nero will "reallocate" some files. If Nero still fails, then use IFOEdit and get VTS_Sectors.
In all honesty, you would be better off with Imgburn as stated so many times above

Had this problem before. Burned it as is with ImgBurn: doesnīt work on various DVD Players. So whenever Nero complains about TS.VOB, i run the files thru FixVTS. Itīs not a bug in Nero. Nero just detects wrong info in ifo-file. After cleaning the ifo with FixVTS Nero burns the DVD just fine - without complaing about VIDEO_TS.VOB (Nero doesnīt need it or search for it) .
So I often do a "Testburn" with Nero - just to check out if there are problems. Yes: FixVTS. No: Burn with ImgBurn (or sometimes even with Nero) -
Generally the right advice, but there is no panacea or guarantee. The other day, I ripped a DVD9 for backup, using current Fab Decrypter, then ImgBurn2 for burning -- something I've done a great many times and per the official guide. I use only the MIS Verb DLs. ImgBurn choked on Verify, at around the 95% mark, so I bailed at that point. Something like that does not happen often, and when it has in the past, the resulting DVD9 was usually either o.k., or the defect(s) fell somewhere that does not really matter, such as in the trailers or non-critical Extras material. This time, the backup began stuttering and freezing from the git-go, and nav controls could not jump past the problem. A bad Verb DL blank ? -- perhaps. Bad source ? -- could be. Differences re standalone player tolerance for issues with pressed vs. burned media ? -- maybe. I don't think there is any evidence of a problem with the computer burner -- certainly not for SL discs -- but I'll keep an eye on it, just in case. I was able to split that DVD9 to two DVD5s, without a problem, but that wasn't really first choice for backup purposes.Originally Posted by rkr1958
Lord Smurf and others have opined here that the VERIFY function (in ImgBurn or elsewhere) isn't worth much. Whether or not that is correct, I have noticed that it passes in most of my ImgBurn DL backup attempts, and that when it doesn't is when there is a real chance of some serious problem. When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form. -
Yep, of course.Originally Posted by t0nee1

ImgBurn burned the DVD with the errors in the IFO, while Nero at least detected them.
I also trust ImgBurn more in burning, but Nero is nice to do a little pre-check.
So Nero isnīt that stupid, as their Mpeg2 encoder isnīt that bad (Man, the germans work together, itīs based on the Mainconcept Codec. You can get same quality as with Sony Vegas, if you know how to tweak it --> export !!! as MPEG-file, a few registry changes, and there you go, 2 pass and all.)
And Iīm not a Nero Fanboy! (Using the Micro Version by updatepack.nl with mausau addons) -
If I get that message I try and open it in DVD Shrink. If it opens I do a backup even if no shrink is needed as that seems to fix somethings and olny take a short time. I find DVDShrink handy to create ISOs and to break ISOs into the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders as needed. Darn shame it was killed as it is a handy program beyond the shrinking.

DVDShrink really wasn't killed. It's developer went to work for Nero.Originally Posted by TBoneit
