I would love to see a much-improved menu system, like the ability to create a chapter menu and make menu buttons.

I downloaded the beta and am playing around with it. Some interesting observations:
The main menu:
Multiple DVD resolutions are now selectable:
Also there are menu templates available:
Several are designed for making discs from TV episodes.
Plus input video files can be cropped, resized, borders added and more:
The sounds for program-related events now feature a sexy female voice, in Castillian, English (with a eastern European accent), French, German and Japanese. (here they are if you want to hear them: http://www.ninjabynight.com/sounds.rar ) A very nice improvement with features it has lacked, and users have long wanted in this program. You are in breach of the forum rules and are being banned. I listened to the recorded sounds: The English vocal sounds awkward, unreal. I hope we can mute this thing.

The version I had caused all sorts of problems usually ending with the computer CPU locked at 100% with the priority set to "normal". There is a new beta out today. I updated to that so we'll see if I fare better. Wish me luck...

Conversion is excellent but I had some sort of access error when it had finished burning and ejected the disc. It doesn't seem to affect the program function itself but it's worth noting.

I have been using ConvertXtoDVD for some time and think its one of the best converters around and its all done with just a few clicks, so much easier than using a number of programs and utilities just to get the smae result.
VSO will be a big kick in the ass to Nero in time to come. -
I finally got the new version to work after setting the CPU priority to "below normal", freeing up an additional 10 Gig of space on the working drive and having a 12" fan blow air on the mobo (in addition to the 2 fans and open case in the computer) and crossed my fingers. That seemed to be the trick at least this time out. Took an additonal 4 hours as well as a lot of praying to make this work. Once I report my success and failures to VSO they can make sure these problems don't crop up in future revisions...

Yeah, it has some issues. It doesn't produce output that Nero likes when the minimal menu template is used and as a result you get a bunch of warnings from Nero when burning. But, it does play just fine in a standalone player.
I did a test and compiled a number of video files into a DVD. I set the priority to Idle and set the quality to High Quality / Slow Conversion. It really doesn't take that long and the output was quite nice. Personally, I don't really see the need for the 2-pass encoding that a lot of people are wanting. If they add it then cool but if not then it really doesn't matter.
I'm really not a huge fan of getting crazy about menu options but I guess it's nice. This is only in the RC phase and some bugs definitely need to be ironed out but I'm rather impressed with the results so far. I won't, however, use the software to produce anything I wish to keep and burn just yet. -
Odd that as every other encoder works with the SP3 beta, as well as every other piece of software on this particular computer. Well, it IS a work in progress so we'll just have to wait for a final release version...
