  1. Hi,
I have used the 'best' setting in the above to make a DVD but still looking for better performance. Anyone know of a better 'template'?
    Best Regards

  2. What do you mean "template"/

There is no other templates besides svcd, vcd and DVD.
I've never had any problems with DVD Movie Factory and produce excellent quality dvd's.

Try using DvdIT pe or MyDVD
    and compare the differences

  3. Hi,
I mean different setting for Frame Order, Variable/constant date rate, higher than 6000K bps? Anyone tried other combination than the standard provided? My film has lots of movement.
    Best Regards

  4. I assume you are having seeing blocking in the high motion secenes. You may also have a noisy video which the mpeg encoder treats as motion to require a video date rate of greater than 6K. Here is what you can do. To change the video data rate go to Make Movie and select Custom. Then select Options and the Compression tab. Select Media Type NTSC DVD. Now you can set the video data rate to constant or variable and as high as 9800KBS See if that helps.

If your video is noisy you may want to use some of the filters with VirtualDub and use TMPGEnc to encode.

  5. Hi,
My DV camera is quite old, the 1st generation, Sony PC1, Pal. When I shot pictures moving from left to right or the other way round, the mpeg2 compression seems to 'jerk' not smooth. And the picture also looks noisy, lots of pixels, not smooth. Sometimes I think the picture from my VHS recorder looks better, than my DVD. I tried tmpgenc, but also does not look that good. Can it be my camera? worn out video head? or because it ia an old model, the bandwidth is not that wide as current model?

If you pan fast the images will be jerky and cause a lot of blocking in the mpeg2 image. With digital video it either works or not there is no degradation. If you look at the video on a tv does it look acceptable? If the picture is noisy, looks busy in the background, this can cause blocking. You can sacrafice some sharpness and use a blur filter to get rid of some of the noise and reduce the blocking. If you use the blur filter in VirtualDub you will first have to transcode your type 1 DV video to DV type 2 to use VirtualDub. This is a lossless process. Filter the file, meg encode and see if this helps.
