I have the Satellite M55 series and I notice that the AC adapter has a problem. I am not sure if it is a bad battery problem. When I plug in the AC adapter, I notice that it will charge to 99%. Once it does that, instead of using the AC Power as the power source, it starts using the battery after it is fully charged. It will drain it to 0% and then shut down. When I restart the computer, it will charge it back to 99%, then drain it back down, and shut down. It is suppose to charge to 99%, then use the AC Power instead of the battery.
Do I need a new AC Adapter or a new battery?

Neither the adapter nor the battery control the charging. It sounds like the power circuitry of the laptop has problems. I would look into getting it serviced.
If it was an adapter issue, it likely wouldn't charge at all. If it were a battery issue, it likely wouldn't charge or never reach full capacity. The charging circuit controls the charging of the battery and the switchover to AC. Removing the battery should force the laptop to run on AC power (note some laptops won't function without a battery).Google is your Friend -
Interesting, I hope it is not the circuitry problem, cuz then it would cost a lot. Probably better to get a new laptop.

So I take out the battery and plug in the laptop to the AC adapter. I am doing this to see if its the batterry problem or AC adapter. Now Power Source says "AC Adapter" but Battery Remaining says "255%". How can that be possible? It can only go up to "100%" when fully charged. Charge Status is "No Baterry" and Life Remaining is "N/A"

Software glitch or hardware issue. I would think software. The Toshiba support forums may provide a better answer.
