problem with cutting AVI in half with VirtualDub.

I tried to cut a XviD file in half with VirtualDub, but for some reason the output has one file lager than the other and even worse, there is no sync between audio and video.
I'm using these guides:

Yeah, don't cut by time but by filesize. That first guide to which you linked is completely wrong when it says you can cut an AVI in half by putting half the frames on the first CD and half the frames on the second. You can do it that way if CBR encoding was used, but VBR encoding doesn't work like that. For example, if there are more complex scenes in the second half of the movie (car chases, explosions, shootouts, etc.) then it stands to reason that the second half will be larger. I use VDubMod and it's pretty good at splitting the files in half. When you move the slider, it shows you how large the file is so far. Maybe VDub can do the same. I don't know as I don't use it. You still might not get it right on the first try, though.

As for the synch issue, maybe you have VBR MP3 audio. Unless you have one of the newest versions of VDub which finally supports VBR MP3 audio (with a plugin, I think?), that's another reason to use VDubMod for the job. Answer "No" to the question about VBR audio when opening the file. If that's not the reason, then I don't know, except that maybe you shouldn't be getting your AVIs from off of the Internet, because there's no telling what you'll get.
