Hi,
Got my Pioneer DVR-A03 yesterday, installed OK, had to change to PIO mode in Win2K to get it to write anything.
Im using Nero, Prassi and InstantVob to master the discs, all the same result. plays in my PC, but not in my Standalone (Sony 725, which does DVD-R and DVD-RW)
VOB files are authored from a MPEG-2 DVD compliant source. (using Maestro)
Pioneer DVR-A03 using firmware 1.55 (upgrading to 1.68 tonight)
Win2K SP2
Any ideas ? Im pinning my hopes on the firmware (i have read a couple of posts, indicating problems with standalones using discs written with 1.55 firmware)
Media used is Pioneer RW v1.1 (this is compatiable with my standalone according to many others)
Cheers in advance

SLight update.
If i burn a DVD-R, it appears to play OK, still doesn't play DVD-RW though on the same player..
I realise that DVD-RW is LESS compatiable than DVD-R, but my player (Sony 725) is reported as playing DVD-RW.
Any help appreciated. -
I have a Pioneer A03 also and I haven't done any DVD-RW. I have done a mess of DVD-R's without the slightest problem in my fussy Panasonic.
You probably know that the actual physical makeup of a DVD-RW is different then a DVD-R this can contribute to the problem.
I use Win XP Pro and haven't had any problems or had to change anything. Stuck it in , booted it up and started using it.
When you say it won't play does this mean both sound and video?
I know you have to treat a video with .dts a little differently then normal.
Also, I assume when you use Maestro it is creating the correct ifo files needed by the player to play the content. -
The chance is huge that after the firmware update your player will play dvd-rw but it could be not to(depending on the media)
I to have a Sony 725 and it play's dvd-rw fine
Question#1: Where did you get maestro from
Question#2: Where did you get the firmware from???
Thanx an good luck
just keep trying hé

I know that maestro is creating the correct IFO and VOB files as the same project written out of Maestro using DVD-R media works 100% on my Sony 725, writing the same project to a brand new DVD-RW does not play on my 725.
I got the firmware from Pioneers Website.
What DVD-RW media are u using with your Sony 725 ? -
I have a pioneer A03 and Toshiba SD-3750. I have figured out how to make the DVD-R/RW play on the standalone. I use IFOedit, prassi and Decrypter or Smartripper. The key is to create a "VIDEO_TS" folder and make sure you use IFOedit correctly.

Alhall, thanks for the comments,
but a couple of things.
1. Im not trying to rip/copies of original DVD's, im mastering my own so the IFO files are correct
2. I don't have a problem with DVD-R, they work fine (another pointer to my IFO file being correct).. Its only DVD-RW media.
Id really like to bottom this one out as its bugging me.
