I've tried everything with dvdFAB to get a xvid rip from a DVD to play on my xbox 360. I thought the 360 can play dvix/xvid's? am i missing something I keep getting the no coded error when trying to play. Is there another 1 step process to rip a dvd with good quality that will play on the 360?
What about a high quality WMV under 2-3gigs. I've ripped to one .vob then converted to mpg but the file is 5.7gigs pretty large when I have a 700+ dvd collection to rip and a two step process really sucks.

I'm not familiar with DVDFab but can you get it to convert to divx with ac3 audio? This avi worked fine for me on my 360.
Have a good one,

Never did the whole DVD but did some clips with DVDx. Used it from the early days to get VCDs. It can output to both Divx/Xvid and WMV (supposedly on the WMV...keeps crashing when I try...).what program do you use?
Let me try a full DVD tonight and let you know how it goes. I tend to go on the high side for divx/xvid, like 1000-1200Mbs and find that it comparable in quality to my 4500-5500Mbs mpeg2 files I'd do for DVD. So, I'd say for a single layer DVD (4.5gb) about 1gb and double layer (9.0gb) about 2gb.Also on average how large are your dvd rips?
I'd say tha'ts a respectable conversion time.its saying 1hr 33mins to convert.
Since you are converting, this would probably be a good choice to keep as much quality as possilbe. Its either size or quality...not usually both. I don't pretend to be some big video savant. I keep things as simple as possible and don't do a whole lot of tweaking. Probably why I tend to stay with the large (comparitively) bit rates. And with hard drives getting larger and cheaper, why not? (Just replaced a dying 120gb 4yr old Maxotr with a Seagate 250gb for US$49...unbelievable.)good sound and vid quality for watching on a 44" LCD tv screen.
I watch on a Sharp 46" LCD (LC-46D92U) and LOVE the output from my 360. Its a GREAT upconverter for regular DVDs and now that it allows playing of divx files (with ff/rw/pause...) I'm even happier.
This process is still pretty new so I'll be looking for short cuts wherever I can. But for now DVDx is my choice of tool though I'll be looking for others over the next couple of weeks. AND, converting all those mpeg1 and mpeg2 vidoes to divx since the &*$&$% 360 won't play them...Have a good one,
neomaine

Did you update your 360? I use Fab plat for my DVD backups but haven't tried for DVD to dix/xvid avi...

try this method...works for me....

As I stated above I don't use Fab for my avi conversion...
I rip main movie only with DVDFab to HDD> then use MeGUI for H.264 MP4 or Xvid avi if you prefer...follow the guide I posted, it works...Note:you don't need to install TVersity (unless you plan on streaming your video), you can just burn final MP4 to a CD disc and play on your XBox....
Here is another guide....

You might also try with FairUse Wizard or AutoGk for xvid/divx conversions.....See the How to section here <<<<<<" Who needs Google, my wife knows everything"
