new to films --need help

I'me new to downloading of films from the internet,however once downloaded how can Iput them onto disc to play on my dvd player. I have nero5.5 but when I come to burn it takes 4 hours to encode then once burned the picture quality is blocky and sound does not match lips.
Can anyone help? step by step if possible as the brain does not react as fast as it used to. :oops:

First off, avoid using Nero to convert between formats. If your unsure what format your file is in, you need to check its properites. There are many tools to do this, Virtualdub being a useful one. Refer to both the conversion and tools section on this site. If your downloading movies form the net, then the chances are that many of them are encoded into DivX. Again refering to the tools section you'll need to download a DivX player and as many codecs as you can find to ensure playback.
