5.1 from another DVD player?

Hello i have a little problem here.

I bought a Sony Bravia HDTV, and i move my home theater from the living room to my bedroom, where i have a Philips DVP642 DVD player in which i watch DivX movies. The other one is a Philips Mx2500 5.1 Home theater.

i normally use the DVP642, because when i insert a disc in the HT, appears a msg that says "NO DISC", so i use the 642 and because i have like 400 DivX.

Today i was watching the AVIA HOME THEATER CALIBRATION video in the DVP642, and passing the sound to the HT in the AUX connection, but when started to test channels i discover that all the channels sounded at the same like a quadraphonic system and not like a surround. I try the DVD in the HT and atthere the test was good, every speaker sounded alone .The question is: is this normal? is there way to mantain the 5.1 when i use the AUX of the HT? Anyone knows why when i hit with my hand on the top of the HT loads the disc?

Are you using a digital connection?
And is the other dvd player set to "bitstream" for 5.1?

The short answer is no. The long answer is that to pass 5.1 channel audio from your player to the HT requires either a digital (optical or coax) input on the HT (from the player) or 6 analogue inputs on the HT (from the player). If the AUX is stereo RC then all you will get is downmixed stereo from the player.

Hey thanks m8s for your wisdom.

I change the settings in my DVD player, and i found the DOWNMIX, there says STEREO and LT/RT and when i set the last one, now i listen separate sounds for front and for rear speakers, but not from L and R rear speakers, but thats an improvement.
The downside is that both, the HT and the DVD player only have Coaxial and optical OUTPUT in both lol.

and finally i was comparing which is better for watching movies in the HDTV, the DVD i have connected with component cable and progresive from the DVD, but i connected my laptop through the PC connection on the TV, and the picture was a lot better, so i think i have 3 solutions:
1. PC connection: great picture, but i dont know if i have the same problem because i connect the audio from the laptop to the HT with the AUX.
2. HDMI: buying a new HT with HDupscaling cappabilities (i want the cheapest solution lol)
3. DVD component: not that good picture with front and rear sound, not really surround.
what do you think fellas.
