problem using search bar in MPC with WMV vids

When I open any wmv file it is slow to open up and then when I move the seek bar anywhere it takes forever to play. Any idea why Media Player Classic is having this problem and how I could fix it?

Also, this might be related, I'm unable to get wmv files to preview a thumbnail image.

I'm using windows xp SP2 and I don't have any codecs or codec packs installed except for xvid.

I had the seek problem too with MPC and found the solution on DOOM9's forums

Newer .WMV videos use VC-1 so install Windows Media Format SDK11

I installed that but now the vids just freeze when I open them.

They still won't preview in explorer either. I don't think it's a MPC problem at all. We're talking about 100 vids though so I'm not going to convert all of them.

They play fine in wmp and vlc...so anyone know why they won't play in MPC?
