  1. I'm trying to convert some DV AVIs to a variety of formats (DVD/SVCD/VCD). I captured the DV, and created a project (titles, fadein/out) in premiere. I'm frameserving from premiere with video server plugin (v0.93) and encoding with TMPGEnc 2.5. The quality just looks really bad (reminds me of the encoding my ATI card does in realtime with their software). Very blocky, any sharp edges are terrible. There is a LOT of noise around everything too. The source is not that noisy, and I'm running noise reduction, and cropping off a flickering line on the top.

Now, I've converted DV->VCD before with MUCH better results. For this, I even tried converting from the original DV AVI and not the frameserver. Last time, I used a Pentium II, 400MHz and a slightly older version of TMPGEnc.

This time, I'm using an Athlon XP 1800+. I am aware of the unreliability of SSE with TMPGEnc, but i was still getting bad results with that disabled.

CCE worked great for a DVD encode of the same material.

Any suggestions? Would disabling 3dnow/mmx help at all?

Personally, I dound frameserving from Premiere to TEMPEnc in SVCD format, the way to go with DV AVI. Superb results using 12E.
