Their feed is not ftp, it's http 1.1 referral to an Apache server. Get Firefox as a browser. Clear your cache, then play one of the videos. Then copy/paste _CACHE_001_ to your desktop and open it in notepad or wordpad. If you type about:cache into the address bar of the browser, it will show you the path to the cache folder.
Scroll down to the bottom of cache_001. In plain text you will see the http address ending in .flv embedded in a longer string of text.
They even numbered the videos in sequence, so you can just change the number for subsequent downloads.
Open VLC and paste the http address ending in .flv into the media resource locator and then set VLC to save the file as an .flv and dump the raw output. Don't transcode until you are sure VLC got the file. VLC will authenticate the transaction needed to get the file. When I tried to save the file using Firefox, it hung up trying to open it. -

when you say scroll down to the bottom of cache 1 and look for the link with http address with .flv in it? i'm not finding anything. i'll try some more on other videos, but i think i tried around 3x' now and i keep coming up with nothing. i felt i was doing good and on right track. wonder where i went wrong. shrugs.thx

HTTP:http://forum.athletes.com/fitshow/week14/week14_1lg.flv
Ignore the HTTP: in front. I made it non-clickable

Clear the cache before hand, and play the video you want. You have to play the video in this case to get the cookie "token" so the server will give you the file. To give you the file, it has to tell you where it is. I also use flashblock plugin in Firefox to force the broswer to wait, and limit the number of flash files I'm looking for.
Then give the address to VLC and let it stream save the file. The 'Unplug' plugin for Firefox doesn't work. This web site hides their goodies real well.
This site makes it easy to tell the flv's apart because they have a large and a small version of each and they tell you the size beside the link to click. The file size "Content-Length: 27614222" (27+ MB) is in the cache list.
Since you also have the path to the hd cache, you can make a shortcut on your desktop, like I do. That way if you want to, play the video, wait for the progress bar at the bottom of the video window to turn grey all the way across, then *quickly* file> edit> select all> copy all the files in the cache folder to a separate folder on your desktop. Sort by size, rename the files one by one with .flv and play them with VLC until you find the one you want to keep. It takes a little practice to do it that way, but some places will force your browser to dump parts of the file after completing the cache, so you have to copy it before it gets dumped. -
i'm trying to comprehend all of this. i'm a little slow. =0
i'll just start by thanking you now, and ask you to standbye please for more questions. haha
edit: i think my problem was that i wasn't waiting long enough. i waited around midway for the video to play then went to cache and tried locating url. seemed to be there after i waited around for a few.
next question, what is this vlc? is this gonna format the video to .mpg for me? i usually just grapped url and dl from browser, and play with windows media classc.
i'm having a difficult time saving so far. a little enlightment please? =p -
VLC is a free media player/web streaming program. If you tell it to open a web location, like the url for the flv file, it will play it for you. It can also save it while playing. MPlayer will do the same thing.
VLC can recode, but it won't unless you tell it to. In your case just play the file locally and dump the raw stream into an output file ending in .flv -
ya, that's my question. i need help saving it. completely new to this program and there is a rash of options in here i have no knowledge of. =0
so what i do once i open vlc? i'd like to stream this and save it plz. i'm just unsure as to which direction i go once i open it up. thx -
