Changing Video Resolution

I'd like to lower the resolution of video files down to 220x176 so I could put them onto a media player and take up the least space (220x176 is the max resolution for the player)

Anyone know of (free) tools that can do this?

What container (AVI, MPG, RM, MKV, etc.) and codecs (MPEG, Divx, h.264, MP2, MP3, AAC, etc.) are your sources ? What container and codecs do you need to make for your player?

original files are AVI, and the player has a built-in converter that accepts AVI, MPEG, WMV, MOV, and MP4 (and a few other types I don't recognize)... the player converts everything to MOV

Not sure that answers all of your inquiries, but it's all I understand comprehensively

If the player has a built-in converter, doesn't it do all this for you ?

What is the player ?
What software came with it ?

the converter doesn't resize the file, it just plays it as a smaller resolution... so the way I'm thinking it's just wasted space

It's a Sandisk Sansa e280, and the software is the converter that puts it into the player
