Bit strange question, not so technical....
i'm having a party which consists of 4 hours reception/eating and 4 hours dancing.
Those 1st 4 hours i want to play a full movie to the audience. It has to be something curious, attractive, but doesn't interfere too much. No 'pirates of the caribbean'....what to choose?
Someone has a idea?

Target audience characteristics?
Age group?

Do mean you are looking for a 4 hour film?
Do you mean you are looking for something visual that will intrigue without much aid from sound?

If I were to ever do something similar, which i most probably won't, I think I'd like to show Begotten. A bit disturbing, but even if I were to show it to the straight and narrow, at least I'd get a kick out of it.

Everything is technical.

Never heard of it so I thought...Google it. Read some reviews. Holy Cow! Feel like I need to read "The Little Engine That Could" just to clear my mind.
