The AVS forum has a thread devoted to this. I'm not sure if everyone who posts here also checks out the AVS forum. For those that may not be aware here it is:

If the link I posted get's deleted the title of the thread is:
Toshiba XS32, XS54, XS35, (all XS models) - HDD swap info!!!
As of last night all XS series models are for the most part covered. I am running 1 terabyte of storage with my XS54 using external removable hard drives.
For those who do not post at AVS this thread may be a good place to pose questions.

I was just going to post the same thing.

So far, it looks like all XS series HDDs can be replaced with the same model HDD. The XS32, XS34 and XS54 can format a new HDD. You may be able to swap in a larger HDD in some XS models, but you'll only get the original HDD size.

Here's a list of replacement HDDs from the Toshiba service manuals:

 XS32 - 80GB - Maxtor 4R080L0 or Seagate ST380012ACE

 XS52 - 160GB - Maxtor 4R160L0CS or Seagate ST3160022ACECS
 KX50 - 80GB - Maxtor 4R0L0CS or Seagate ST380012ACECS

 XS34 - 160GB - Seagate ST3160022ACECS

 XS54 - 250GB - Maxtor 7Y250P0 or Seagate ST3250823ACE

 XS35 - 160GB - Maxtor 6L160P0

 XS55 - 250GB - Maxtor 6L250R0 or Seagate ST3250823ACE

My XS54 has a factory installed 6L250R0, so I guess there's some flexibility across units. I successfully swapped a new Maxtor 6L250R0 in my XS54.

I tried to swap drives on a KX50 with one out of another exact same recorder, it didn't work. I know the HD is good, I've been using it in a PC for months.

	RICKC5,
This is a question I posted for you in AVSFORUM and hoped you might help.

I'm trying to do a little verification regarding the XS32 change from 80G to 160G.
 Two drives are discussed:
 ST3160022A 7200rpm UDMA133 9W6004-001 2MB? (In your table)
 ST3160022ACE 5400rpm UDMA100 9W6024-006 (16MB? 2MB?)
Will both of these drives work and will they both format to 160G.

 Thanks
