Well my guess is dvr stands for digital video recorder. MS might be microsoft. is it from a special branded tivolike recorder? If so you might need special software to try it. Though for starters have you used windows media player yet? It can often play back files if they use mpeg2 even if they are coded in a different file - it plays back my .tivo files I get from my dvr.

Another option is to try directshowdump to crack it to mpeg assuming its some encoded video file from a dvr. Though you need to have the .net framework installed. You can download it from the microsoft website.

One other thing to try is vlc or mediaplayerclassic. They can handle unique video files with their built in codecs. Also check out gspot or avicodec to identify the codec used in the file.

if you want to make a dvd you will need to eventually get it to mpeg2 format for authoring. Like I said try directshowdump as it converts dvr recorded video into useable video files that can be authored and burned.

  5. TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 will accept dvr-ms directly and allow you to author a standard DVD or convert to Ultra Divx.

The dvr-ms file is what XP MCE uses when it captures video. Vista home pro and up also. This would seem to imply you are running XP MCE or vista and captured via Media Center.

DVRMSToolbox ... thats vista only here ... why ? , when movie maker in vista already supports it ???

    http://www.download.com/3001-11444_4-10444368.html ... for xp / mce ... requires.net 1.1.4322 installed .

Still tinkering with the extracted files from msi pack .

For those with .net2 only installed ... locate and download .net 1.1.4322 package ... its out there still ... then uninstall .net 2 , reboot pc , then install .net 1.1.4322 .

Install DVRMSToolbox from the other link supplied , reboot pc , and you should not have a issue with reinstalling .net 2 .

For those who want to tinker with msi packs : http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/Forms/AllItems.aspx

Click only on the zip icon called orca ... strange little thing that site , click anything else thats not an icon , and you need a password ... funny buggers .

Universal extractor can unpack msi .

Here , its up and ready :
