My widescreen slashes resolution

Hi guys, i downloaded some xvid widescreen (640x352) flicks and i converted them to anamorphic widescreen dvd, the thing is that i noticed my Widescreen TV chops away part of the image at the sides, is there a way to put some kind of letterbox to my vids so that my tv chops away the black bars instead of my precious lateral resolution? To give you an idea, one of the vids i encoded was on a native 5:3 aspect ratio, when i encoded it to 16:9, nerovision added two black borders at the sides, and when i played the resulting dvd on my tv, the 2 lateral black borders could barely be seen!

It's called Overscan. It does it to all your DVDs as well, and your TV shows etc.

If it is really driving you insane, use FitCD to create an avisynth script that will add borders and reduce the image size to fit inside your TV visible area. Encode from the script instead of the source avi.

Note : the overscan area varies from TV to TV. On one TV you may see no borders and lose a little image, while on another you will see borders all around. Also remember, if you bought the same movie on DVD, you would lose the same amount of image to Overscan.
