I am using the state of the art program DVD-rebuilder with HCEnc. However, I was wondering if any of you have any tips on how to setup HCEnc. I use the slowest mode, beside that I don't know how to modify it.

My suggestions would be to install and use the HCGUI. On the Main page for the GUI, use the Best profile. The default settings are usually OK. Do not use 3:2 Pulldown unless you are encoding 24 fps NTSC video as 24 fps output. You should check Interlaced if you have interlaced video and uncheck if you have Progressive video (another tool such as the Teco Bitrate Viewer or Gspot can help you to know what your video clip is using). The Teco Bitrate Viewer can tell you if you have Alternate or Zigzag scan method, which is on Settings 1 of the GUI. Other settings could be changed, but unless you have a compelling reason to do so and understand exactly what the option means that you are changing, I would mostly use the defaults.
