    Re: a previous post.
I'm a decorator. A few years ago I worked on a beautiful home owned by husband and wife lawyers.
The house was wall to wall with home theatres, flat screen TVs, fabulous artwork. The kids had every toy / game imaginable.
Due to the incompetence of one of their relatives, the house caught fire and burned to the ground.

Several months later when the house was rebuilt, I was called in to redecorate. I sympathised with the lady of the house over her loss.
She said, nothing they lost mattered. It was all replaceable. But the loss of family photos and home movies was heartbreaking.

I now have backups of all my home movies and have transferred photos to DVD, and they are stored at a completely different location. NOT in the same house.

  2. When my son was a baby, he used to wake up almost every hour and cry, and nothing seemed to quiet him. I came up with this little song which worked like a light switch, in seconds. The only video showing this got soda spilled on it, then got infested with ants. My wife later mistakenly threw it away. What I wouldn't give to have a backup of that tape.

For any new, desperate parents out there, to the tune (I think) of "singin' in the sunshine, laughing in the rain"

    "Singin' wit' my BA-Beeeee,
    Singin' wit' my pal-llllll,
    Singin' wit' my Ba-Beee,
    Singin' wit' Big Al-lll"

My son Alex is now 9, and absolutely HATES that song.

At one point, after weeks with little or no sleep, I had shouted at my wife "You don't understand, it's SOFTWARE". I have no idea what that meant, but it made perfect sense at the time.

And a double-vote for "store it off-site." Never thought I'd be so happy I went to all that trouble until the bitter soon-to-be-ex-wife made it clear she wouldn't be giving me copies of the family photos or videos.

SO glad that I already had a backup set locked in my desk at work.

Now the dope has worn off and you've re-read this can you remember the words of the song?

I don't send pictures, home movies(dvd) and slideshows(dvd with original jpegs on the disc) to all of my family members just to annoy them. They don't know it but they are part of my safety backup "evil scheme" as well.
