Capture problems with Mac

I'm having massive problems capturing from FCP HD Express. I get the "detected dropped frames" after few seconds every time/ every tape.
I'm plugged in directly to computer and even turned off preferece to abort on dropped frames!
Someone has suggested that going to 10.4.9 (which I did) could be problem. Can anyone help me here? I'm all out of ideas thanks.

Download and apply the OS 10.4.9 Combined System Update on top of your existing 10.4.9 System. There are times when the incremental system updates cause odd problems with Firewire and USB communications that are fixed when reapply the combined system update.

Was not combined system. Problem was that with upgrade of 10.4.9 was conflict with Spotlight, and setting privacy to capture folder solved it. Info provided by leader of FCP... who would think of that??
