Is there software that will allow one to present still pictures from a digital camera from a DVD player on the television? Im hoping there is software that will takes .gifs and organize them and burn a DVD that can be played in a television DVD player and allow a presentation of the pictures to be managed by using the DVD player/remote.

Sorry if the wrong forum but if you could point me in the right direction Id be thankful

    thank you for any insight!

Have a look at ProShowGold http://www.photodex.com/
Amongst other tricks it allows you to pan, zoom and rotate your stills to give a professional look at feel to you "slideshow movies".

It will produce DVD, SVCD, VCD, standalonme mpeg and even .exe files which should cover anyone you might want to show the pics to.

ProShow Producer is a step up in the Photodex chain. Very Nice software.

ok. thats great. When viewing on a TV, do these softwares generally allow you to control the presentation, select folders and such using the DVD remote control
    thanks again

Proshow gold creates movies from stills with transition effect etc.

You can then burn them to DVD or burn several to a dvd with menus (depending on your authoring software).

I'm not sure what you are asking - Are you trying to use a DVD/TV like PowerPoint?
or is it simply putting several shows on one DVD?

keep in mind that gif is fairly poor quality and not suitable for much resizing

    Short answer --- No.

Remember, a DVD player is really only designed to play movies. These programs turn your pictures into movies and you have to decide how much time you want to show each picture before they can do that.

Yes, some players can take folders of pictures and flip through them. But it's a player-by-player function and then you get into issues like acceptable filenames (can they take spaces or not?), how many levels of directories, etc. It becomes a mess pretty quickly.

Instead, you create titles (using a DVD authoring app) that "simulate" folders, and perhaps chapters to simulate subfolders. All can be made much nicer than the std file/folder list data file capable players provide.

Most DVD players will allow you to do this as a data DVD, just burn the pictures and folders to a DVD as you normally would. The options or even if this will work depends on your DVD player. Usually they only accept .jpg , if you have alot of gif's or other formats you can use irfanview to batch convert. Lokk up your DVD player to the right or in the manual to see if it supports this.

If you want to make it work on all DVD players or add transitions, music etc. then use some of the program suggested above. Those don't specifically give you a folder selection but a regular DVD menu. Very customizable, a little bit or a lot of work depending on how much time you want to spend with it..
