    Hello,
I'm trying to save ~40 Hi8 films in DivX format for PC and TV use.
Before launching the whole process, I'd like to validate that the setup I use is the optimal one:
I acquire the DV thru Windows Movie Maker (WWM) (via a second DV camcorder), then I review the film, remove the unwanted parts. I then create a 'table of content' jpg file that I use as title inserted with WMM (WMM native titles are not convenient). I then recreate the DV based on these changes (cuts + title addition). I finally do the DivX encoding thru DrDivX OSS using High Definition and quality = extreme. This process is quite long and I'd like to make sure I do right before replicating 40 times...
    Any comments/recommendation welcome.
    Thanks in advance, Jean-Pierre

I have done something similar ( not so elaborate with the menus )

but i use 'DVD express' from 'ADS' tech for the capture , as it has real time hardware encoding to mpeg2 at very high quality settings, I then archive the mpeg2 files and use them to create DVDs,

but they could have processed to create AVIs or mp4's using Dvix

DVDxpress comes with is own capture software and Uleads 'movie factory' which IMO is superior to WMM, though I also have used it and started out with that program

there are now 2 or 3 versions of the DVDexpress hardware available, my version 2 years old is now available for about $49

  3. My Panasonic e500 dvd recorder records to mpg4 with several quality settings. That's one way to do it.
