I've been making vcds and the quality is fairly good. I would like to create even better quality results. my video and sync are fine. My question is how much better if any is encoding to mpeg2 and buring onto dvd-rw verse encoding to vcd format and buring onto a cd-r. I know that the cost of the discs are way differnt and a dvd burner is about 500.00 is the quality differance worth stepping up and forking out the extra cash.

Assuming you are coming from a perfect/very good source, then just compare what a DVD looks like versus a VCD on your TV (i.e., DVD vs. DVD rip to VCD).
