I know there are how to's for this but they haven't worked for me. I downloaded a torrent, *.avi. Now I wanna burn that file on to 1 disc to watch on DVD player. The file size is 700 MB so I should use a VCD not to have to change SVCDs while watching the video. The thing is: I have to convert the AVI file to MPEG. Is there any FREE program that allows me to do that EASILY? just converting the file to MPEG and burning on a CD WITHOUT COMPLICATIONS? 'Cause I've tried Nero, NTI, AviSynth, AviScript, CCE and I couldn't get anywhere. I'm really pissed off, the file was supposed to be my dad's Xmas present and I still don't have it ready...
PS: Sorry for my ignorance, I'm a complete newbie.

Hi!
The source file size doesn't matter when you convert to vcd, svcd, dvd. On a VCD can you fit 80 minutes video on a 80 min CD, if you want more minutes you must split on several cds or make xvcd.
Easiest, get a divx dvd player or a dvd writer instead.
If you still want to convert try avi2dvd or dvd2svcd or eazy vcd, no they are not very simple but free. -
If in doubt, Google it.

Question: So, the torrent is downloaded and you've got an AVI larger than the VCD 700MB. When is it best to use the splitter ? Split the AVI, or do the convert and then split the MPEG1 ?
I am using TMPGEnc to do the AVI-MPEG1 conversion.
What is a freeware tool to add the VCD extensions ?
Do the burn ?

What is the size of your AVI? Roughly a 350 MB DivX/XviD [encoded decently] will fit in 1 CDR.
If you use TMPGEnc, then you do not need to split the files separately. Just choose how far you feel like encoding the file in MPEG1, and TMPGEnc will split the file automatically.
A good freeware tool to burn is CD Burner XP Proআমি বাংলায় গান গাই -

I'll have to look at what GSpot says about the CODEX for the AVI files and **perhaps** I can tell what, if anything, is missing ? VirtualDub is telling me it wants XVID to decompress the AVI and _VFW ... but I downloaded and installed the _VFW CODEX suggested by the VD error message - so that's another glitch in the ether
Of course I can always sell out and buy a hardware burner from Best BuyOr ROXIO, for that matter ?-)
