    Unfortunately I accidentally deleted the original avi file, so...

    I have a home movie vob file I want to convert to mpeg or avi so I can create another project with Pinacle Studio 8.

    Is there an good/easy/legal/free program available to convert vob to mpeg or avi?

    I tried it, but both Pinnacle and Movie Maker choked on the audio.

    Any other suggestions?

    You can drop in into virtualdubmod and convert to uncompressed AVI (or use a loseless codec if you prefer) and demux the audio to WAV.
