Ok, I just got Black Hawk Down. It's an avi. I want to make a VCD of it even though the quality is only ok. I know how to do it but my VCD comes out looking like s#$%!
Here's my questions.
1. What's the best Template to use in TMPGenc?
2. What aspect ratio should I use? (I'm in North America)
3. Should I be playing around with the gamma and brightness and all that, or should I just leave it?
4. How do I get rid of the macro blocks? For example: I converted Spy Game to VCD and It came out looking like crap. Then, I ended up d/l it from Mirc already as a VCD and there was no Macro at all, it came out almost perfect.

Not that I encourage pirated movies at all
, buuut..
Firstly Spy Game VCD that you downloaded hadnt been compressed down to an AVI, thats why it looks so good, it hadnt been converted.
Secondly when you download AVI files off places like Morpheus/Kazaa they arent really 'fit' to be converted to VCD, because the frame rate on them are usually 20fps, when they are supposed to be 25 FPS (yes thats right PAL for cinema release VCDs), so converting that would leave it looking like shit.
Changing options in TMPG isnt going to change it by enough to get the quality better, I suggest you watch it on your computer, orrr download it in VCD, or even better go see at the MOVIES..
If you were to encode you have to use the PAL template, dont touch gamma/brightness, it wont help.
Hope this helps. -
I don't mean to start an argument but, what's the point of getting a bootleg copy of a movie if the sound and image isn't going to be that great? I've seen them before and I think I'd rather give $6 and see it on a big screen with surround sound than get it free and simply say I already have it. First and only movie I got like this was The Matrix and I though it wasn't worth watching that way: sound was staticy, view would get blocked by other people and you could sometimes hear other people whispering. That's my POV anyway, more power to ya'!

Some movies arent worth 6$ and if your on cable and your bored or something downloading a movie and watching it is harmless fun. Everyone knows about the bad quality that is often seen on them but if people can bare it well good for them hehe.
Nothing like the big screen though. -
Reasons why ppl pirate:
Most people download movies so that they see them before they are officially released where they live like i do in Australia.
Also, if i like a movie I usually see it anyway at the cinema so it is kind of like a buy b4 you try thing.
Most movies arent even worth paying 6 bucks for to go see at the movies -
Also, some movies arent nearly as bad as you describe it...Screeners are typically "worth the trouble" in my book...others like cams & some telesyncs are not...

hey, lay off the Telesyncs, there are some pretty decent ones hehe

LOL, true, I have seen some decent telesyncs as far as video..but sometimes that mono sound...OWWWWWWW!

Things that piss me off in pirate movies:
Subs
Cinema Noise
Bad Camera angles and movements (if cam)
People blocking the view (cams)
bits cut out of movie -
i too have the movie i ? and its not worted converting it because you rarely get the movie to look just like the one in theathers.. im telling you your going to need a flashlight to see what going on...
video properties
352 x 240, 24 Bits, 66969 Frames, 14.985 Frames/Sec, 58 KB/Sec, KS-MPEG4 V3
audio properties
MPEG Layer-3,56 kBit/s, 24,000 Hz, Stereo -
yeah the version of the movie in ?..is defintely one of poorest qualities Ive seen...to me,the group people who do this stuff should been able to look at that crap, and known it wasnt even worth the time...but my screener rip of "Training Day", spectacular!
