Well, I just recenlty upgraded to AT&T dsl and downloaded their protection suite, which included anti virus software. After that, my dvd shrink times went from 2-3 hours to 6-10 hours to analyze, compress, and burn a single disc. I did not put 2 and 2 together right away, and went on to think my dvd drive was close to its end, (2-3 yrs old). I then went on to check the drive mode, cleared out the app data, defraged, and did a file clean up. Still no improvement. Well come to find out when I disabled my anti virus, everything was back to normal.
Now my dilema. Since I have a dsl connection, I am not too comforable disabling the anti virus for the few hours it takes to burn. So my question is will shutting off my modem affect my connection speed when I turn it back on? (In the dsl modem instruction, it recommended to leave the modem on for 10 days for optimum connection speed.)
thanks
(sorry for the long post.)

What about reverting back to your old AV? You don't have to use the new AV, who know's what other issues it is having.

I use my Sygate Firewall to block all incoming/outgoing traffic for this purpose. Or I can also disable LAN in the Network Properties. Or I can disconnect the Ethernet cable if easily accessible.Originally Posted by zero2005

You can disable the network connection by clicking on the network icon on the lower right corner on th status bar, then click disable. use the same method to enable the connection, after your burn.Originally Posted by zero2005
