I've read all over this site and haven't been able to figure this out yet. Here's the problem: Using TMPG to creat VCDs is no prob - works great with Nero 5.5.6.4 and play perfectly on my Apex 1500. When I encode the file (using TMPG) as a SVCD, Nero gives me the old "invalid format" stating:
    1. MPEG2 instead of MPEG 1
    2. Invalid video stream 29.97 frames per second, 480x480 pixels.

No kidding - that's what a SVCD IS! So I ignore the error and burn it anyway. It will not play in my Apex 1500 DVD Player. How do I KNOW the Apex will play SVCDs? I burned the same file using VCDEasy (using SVCD) and it plays fine.

Do I need the SVCD plug in to burn a SVCD?
Are there settings I need to change in Nero to let it know it's a SVCD and not a VCD?

Is there a way to burn a XVCD (720 x 480 pixels) in Nero? If so how?

    Thanks for ANY help!!

  2. Try de-muxing/re-muxing the file.

for god's sake DO NOT USE the Nero plugin for MPEG-2!!!

I'll give that a shot, but the exact same file played beautifully when I burned it using EasyVCD. Seems to me that Nero still thinks its a VCD and not a SVCD. Are there any differences to how a SVCD is layed out or in the support files?

    Thanks for the tip!

    james33,

I think you left Compilation in VCD mode, and just dragged the SVCD file
    into the VCD Compilation window.

You have to start a NEW Compilation window, but for SVCD and drag your
file(s) into that window and Nero will burn it for ya.

I have the AD-500 and AD-1500 and both play ALL my VCD/SVCD's fine.

You are the man! I was using the "dumb" wizard that starts up with NERO - no option for SVCD there! Followed your instructions and works great. Thanks!!

Wonder why NERO doesn't include SVCD in the wizard??
