check out the SAMSUNG FORUM at Cdfreaks.com.
what brand of dvd media are you using? what version of nero burn are you using? are you using a 80 wire ide cable? some newer 16x & 18x dvd burners need to use a 80 wire ide cable to work correctly. -
using philips media and nero 6.6.019,,,i will check the cable and cd freaks and post back,,,thanks dude

Samsungs are apparently not that good burners. In any case, I advise against 16x burning anyway - stick with 8x or even 4x for quality reasons. However, I'd look at a defrag as well as stuff running in the background and malware as this may cause the buffer problems you are seeing, and may slow down your burns - as well as overall system performace.

I'm not wild about LG either, as an owner of one that failed after a month of use. I'm just making judgments based on what I read here, Afterdawn, etc. that Samsungs, and to a lesser extent, LGs and Lite-Ons, seem to have a disproportionate number of complaints, especially claims of failures of relatively new drives. It's not that they're necessarily awful products, but there are ones with the same features at the same price, but with fewer complaints.

I collect optical drives as a hobby (I know - I need to get a life!). I'm not saying I'm a Samsung fan by a longshot because until 10 days ago my experience was limited to the TS-H552B which didn't necessarily distinguish itself in my mind. I did purchase the S182D recently after watching many posts at CDFreaks speak favorably of it and its Lightscribe brother (the S182M). I have not spent much time with it yet but it looks promising. It has a few quirks from a media support standpoint but does very well with 16x media I tested. As to LG's - I own 3 and plan to add the H22 shortly (I don't have any Panasonic chipped LG's currently). Again, like most opticals, they may have a few quirks but I've been very impressed with their more current offerings and old standby's like the 4040B and the 4163B.
I agree that quality control isn't what it used to be and DOA drives are way too common, but that is what you get when intense pricing pressure reduces opticals to a commodity price base. Keep in mind that LG and Samsung produce a crapload of oem drives for the likes of DELL, Gateway and others. It's no surprise to see lots of complaints considering the huge numbers of some of these models that reach the market. -
thanks for all teh feedback fellas,,i switched over to the 80 pin cable and dropped a disc in 6:11,,got it for 30 bucks at newegg,,for the lightscribe, which is good but not as dark as i'd like it be,,anyway cant complain
