    Hi
Just bought a Philips television, which is cabable of playing video files via lan from my PC (Philips Media Manager).
My problem is, i can only play a DVD by browsing to the folder VIDEO_TS on the PC share, and from there playing one VOB file at a time. It's not a problem, i can live with that, but i am unable to show subtitles when playing these files.
Does anybody know a way to "hardcode" the subtitle i need into the VOB file?, or perhaps another solution, i guess i could convert the whole DVD to MPG files including the subtitle, with TPMGenc Express, but it is going to be a lot of work doing this with all of my DVD's. Now i am playing DVD's via Mediaportal, but since i only are using Video, pictures and music, i could get rid of the PC in the living room, and just handle it via my Television and the PC in "the office".

    advice greatly appreciated!

If you play through the IFO file you can see the subtitles, even if it is from the disk.

Hardcode would require reencoding and as you say and it's going to be a tons of work. Maybe you could play with VLC Media Player and stream to some format that the media center supports.

and why can't they include real dvd playback in the media centers...

By saying "through the IFO file", do you mean as an ordinary DVD?
    If i wasn't clear i am sorry.
The television can play ordinary video files, avi (divx, xvid), mpg, vob (advanced mpg i guess), show pictures and play music - mp3, wma and audio cd's from the PC running the Philips Media Manager. Unfortunately it can't act as an dvd player.
I thought someone perhaps had been in the same situation, needing to play vob files with a hardcoded subtitle, and perhaps knew of a smart and fast way doing that?
And I can't see how VLC can help me either...
I guess I will continue using Mediaportal, or perhaps an updated firmware in the future from Philips, will allow playing real dvd's from the television
