Hello. I am trying to play an episode of Naruto which is an .AVI. I downloaded Gspot and it says I needed Xvid. I downloaded DivX and Xvid and when I opened up the Naruto episode in Gspot, it said codecs were installed (Xvid). WHen I played the episode however, I see green lines and pink stuff on the screen. Basically audio but no video. I downloaded the K-Lite Codec pack (file name: klcodec274f.exe) and did the lots of options install to see if that was any better after uninstalling DivX and Xvid and still no luck. Is there something I need to do in order to play my movie downloads? Thanks!

First uninstall K-lite before it does any major damage. Then try playing the video with VLC. If it plays well there, then you likely have a codec problem as it uses it's own codecs. The green and pink are not unusual with a corrupted codec.

You might try installing ffdshow after uninstalling the Xvid and Divx codecs. It's a type of codec pack but it's safe to use. Your installed Xvid and Divx codecs may not be registering properly with the OS. Sorry, I'm no help there. You can try uninstalling them, reboot, then reinstall, then reboot once more. Hopefully rebooting a few times will get everything in it's proper place.

The green lines can also be a symptom of a problem with directx. I can't remember what exactly but I know I had a similar problem. If you go to www.microsoft.com and do a search for "green lines video" you should find some good links.

Also give ffdshow a try like redwuds suggested. GOOD LUCK

Thanks for the help! The VLC Media Player worked well in playing my anime. However, for some reason, my AUDIO does NOT work anymore on video sites like youtube.com or videogoogle.com, or ifilm.com, etc. Does anyone know the reason for this? thanks!
