Hello fellas. It easy to rip a dvd to any other format when you want only the movie itself.
But how about chapters, interactive menus, and other stuff?
I know .mkv is a good container. I heard that it can include chapters and attachments.
I use mkv with x264 video and ogg audio.
But I have some baby DVD's with many interactive menus, and such.

Is there a way to rip a DVD including interactive menus, and chapters, etc and store it in a single file (like .mkv) ?
If not , what would be the best way to get the result as close to DVD as possible?
    Thank you.

I remember seeing stuff about ratDVD but i never used it so i don't know if it will compress to a single file or if you could use it to compress the dvd then make an ISO afterwards and play it with something like VLC media player.
But ratDVD retains everything on the dvd when it's compressed, menu's ect.

You have a couple of options, however most are limited to PC or perhaps media centre playback.

.Divx allows for most of what you are after. Divx Ultra certified players should be able to play it back, but they are still thin on the ground. DivxMediaBuilder can put it all together.

RatDVD can compress a DVD and keep pretty much everything intact. Might be worth a look.

MicroDVD is another attempt to use the higher compression of Divx/Xvid and the features of DVD. http://www.tiasoft.de/mdvdp/ for more

Loardsmurf I can't believe you said ON2. A couple of years ago the company I was working for was testing with ON2 and they at the time had better video and audio then Divix and MS.

On that topic of ON2 and this topic Flash 8 supports ON2 which is a very good encoder. In Flash you can also put in cue marks and if you’re savvy enough have the player jump to the cues. You would need to connect your PC to your TV if you want to enjoy videos from your arm chair.

ON2 is still kicking and the encoder still looks very good.

mkv supports menus and is the only one other than rat DVD I think that supports automated conversion of menus from DVD. Playback is a problem. VLC might work, but that is about it. mp4 is another option. Supports chapters, menus, etc. You are probably limited to osmo4 for playback though.
