I have some .dv mac files. Should I convert them to .mov (DV compression) so I can import them into Premiere (I'll be exporting MPEG2 with CCE)? Or should I convert the .dv to MPEG2 with CCE first, import the MPEG2 files into Premiere and then export them from Premiere with CCE again? Not sure how to get the best quality CCE MPEG2 from my .dv source after editing in Premiere. Thanks

GREAT idea, but no dice. What process would you advise? If I encode with CCE first, which does accept the .dv master file, and then reencode my edited MPEG in a Premiere export, might it just copy the compression source like VirtualDubMod? The Quicktime Pro conversion to .mov (DV) took some time so I feel like I'm loosing quality. Fewest or neatest recompressions are preferred, obviously. Thanks again.

you would be losing tonnes of quality converting to mpeg first .... dont do it ....

QT conversion to DV.mov output is also losing some quality as QT will recompress it - and not just parse it .... stupid qt .... but it is a better option ....

why not just export it from apple as avi in the first place ?

I don't have a mac, just the .dv files on a disc. I want to keep the quality. Thanks for your consideration. 8)

Focus Enhancements Firestore DV File Converter will convert it with out recompression ...

so can DV Converter v2.3 http://www.baobab.net/softcs.htm#dv

i believe MPlayer (Mencoder) can also do it - as well as QT pro of course ..

sony vegas might also (try the trial version) -

none of the above will recompress the source ,,

I'll try some of your suggestions. Sorry about the repost, I thought some experts might only be active in DVD.

If you know, is Mencoder going to parse or recompress? Thanks for everything.

Vegas (PC) takes .dv mac files. Now we'll see if I can export through CCE as with Premiere Pro. Still want to check out Mencoder, if it parses and doesn't recompress. Thanks again.
