    i've got some avi files i'd like to encode. rather than have to watch them on my tv with black borders top and bottom i'd like to have it full-screen whilst maintaining the aspect ration.

    can anyone tel me which settings i need to achieve this?

    Doesn't your DVD player zoom? Amounts to the same thing and you save a reprocess generation. Someday you too will have a wide screen TV.
