I'm trying to increase performance to the optimum point I can get it at and I know that one way to do this is to install the ATI software on a hard drive on it's own. When I installed the software though the multimedia center still seemed to want to install on the C drive (where my windows is) as opposed to the D drive which is where I told it to install, or i'm guessing that just told it where to extract the files. Is there a way I can safely install all of the ATI software into it's own separate hard drive instead of having to use the windows hard drive and risk conflicts?

In MMC you can set the temp file and working disk directories. That is all you need to do assuming your C: drive isn't full.

So does that mean that that's all I needed to do? I have installed the MMC on one hard drive and captured to another but this seemed to cause problems (although this was with a 7500 All-In-Wonder card compared to my current 9800).

The program can stay on the C: drive. If you have a second drive, you want the capture file, the temp files and the encoded file on the same drive so that in many cases temp files can be simply renamed rather than copied from drive to drive. If the D: drive is defragmented, head seek times will be minimized when the head reads and writes. If you have a third drive there are other possible strategies.

So, basically your saying to go ahead and capture (.avi is what I capture with) and after it's done to copy to the secondary hard drive and edit it there? If I'm annoying you a bit I apologize cause I tend to be a little slow with things I'm not used to. I'm guessing that the temp files you are talking about are the files in the ATI root folder on the secondary drive already and that the encoded file is the final product. I do already know how to capture without dropping frames (defragging before capture included) so I'm pretty well off there.

I would save the file from MMC to the second drive during capture.
